IMPORTANT: Many LifeWise of Washington health insurance plans are transitioning to EPO (Exclusive Provider Organization) network styles in 2016. The EPO model is quite different from the PPO (Preferred Provider Organization) network model that current 2015 plans offer.
LifeWise EPO plans:
- Do not cover out-of-network claims at all.
- Offer very minimal out of state coverage.
SUGGESTED ACTION: Clients who wish to retain the existing network offered by 2015 LifeWise of Washington PPO plans should consider moving to the affiliate, Premera Blue Cross PPO plans for corresponding medical and dental insurance coverage in 2016.
Benefits of moving from LifeWise to the affiliate, Premera Blue Cross:
- Same formularies (x1 & x3) means available drug coverage will not change
- Retain PPO network of providers available, with out of network coverage too
- Retain out of state coverage on Blue Card PPO network in the US
- Retain Blue Card Worldwide anywhere in the world

Q: What Rate Area Am I In? – Rates vary by county. Most of our clients reside in Area 2 – Whatcom & Skagit. Area 1 is King. Click to view the rate map.
Q: Will my drugs still be covered? – As long as you aren’t moving from x3 to x1 formularies, yes – the same drugs should still be covered on the Premera plan.
Q: Can I continue to see my doctor? – Yes. Your provider options will remain the same if you switch to a Premera plan. You will also still be able to see doctors who are not contracted (out of network) but with higher cost sharing.
Q: Will my dental coverage be available with Premera? – YES. If you or your children are currently enrolled in LifeWise dental coverage that coverage will map over to a Premera plan.
If you choose to re-enroll with LifeWise EPO health insurance plans we will support your decision. Our recommendation for most clients is to “move from Green to Blue” during Open Enrollment (November 1 – January 31) in order to maintain an insurance experience most similar to that which our clients are accustomed to on existing LifeWise of Washington medical plans today.
