This week, Moda Health announced that their individual, family and group medical insurance plans will be withdrawn from Washington State. “Effective immediately, Moda will cease all sales and renewals of health insurance plans in the indiviudal, small group and large group markets in Washington state,” the statement says. This announcement is being released only a few days before the public may begin selecting their plans during annual open enrollment period which begins November 1.

Moda Health insurance plans will continue to be offered in Oregon, Alaska and California, but current members living in Washington State will need to choose other coverage this year during Open Enrollment which begins this Sunday, November 1 and ends January 31, 2016.

Current Moda Health members will receive discontinuation letters from the insurance company shortly explaining their options. Customers will have alternative insurance plans available to them to purchase on the exchange with or without a tax credit or in the direct market. In 2015 Moda offered PPO plans to consumers that utilized the First Choice Health network of providers in Washington. Most carriers will each offer at least one variation of a PPO plan in 2016. The identical First Choice Health network of providers will be available through Group Health Options Access PPO plans on the direct market.
